The pain control pendulum is swinging the other way, according to an internationally know expert on pain. Doctor Ramsin Benyamin is founder of the Millennial Pain Institute based in Bloomington. He says for a while doctors were pressured into aggressively prescribing pain medication. "We were mandated even, in the hospitals, to not only address patient's pain, but resolve the pain before their discharged and if not so, the hospitals will be compromising their certification process." Now, Benyamin says, doctors are in a correction mode over pain meds, trying to find a balance. He says every currently 19,000 deaths a year are the result of prescription pain killer overdoses.
