The unpaid bill at the center of a legal dispute between the Town of Normal and council member Stan Nord has apparently been paid.
Records obtained by GLT show a payment of $11,904 was made to the town May 22. That’s the same amount that town officials said Nord owed for a sewer tap-on fee at 2012 College Ave. in west Normal.
It’s unclear who made the payment. The receipt identifies the property as “2012 College / Storage Spot.” The receipt was obtained by GLT on Tuesday through a records request.
Nord said he was working and not immediately available for comment Tuesday. His attorney, Ryan Powers, said the “payment speaks for itself” and deferred to Nord for comment.
Nord, who was sworn in earlier this month, bought the 15-acre property on College Avenue in 2017.Nord claims the town didn’t notify him about the sewer tap-on fee before he bought the land, despite a series of town emails showing the contrary. The town didn’t collect the fee earlier because previous owners did not file a plat before developing the property.
At its May 20 meeting, the Town Council denied Nord’s request to waive the $11,900 fee. At the time Powers said a lawsuit against the town was probable.
But two days later—May 22—the $11,904 payment was made.
