Starting Monday, Pekin City Hall and all other Pekin city facilities will close to the public in an effort to maintain "social distancing" and limit the spread of the coronavirus.

In a news release, Pekin Police Chief John Dossey said this will reduce burdens on healthcare providers and first responders if COVID-19 reaches Tazewell County.

Pekin police officers are also immediately transitioning to phone calls to complete police reports or gather information rather than appearing in person if possible.

Utility bills can be paid via mail, online, or via a dropbox at 500 Elizabeth St. The city clerk, building and inspections department, and police and fire departments will also remain available via phone.
