Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford County health departments will open up COVID-19 vaccinations to all people 16 and older starting on April 5.
That's a week earlier that originally anticipated. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) allowed local health departments broader discretion amid slowing vaccination rates in some areas, and fears of steadily upticking hospitalization and case counts.
Currently, 35,703 people in Peoria County are fully vaccinated. That's 19.7 percent of the population.
Tazewell reports 24,192 people fully vaccinated, or 18.2 percent. And Woodford stands at just under 7,000, or 18.1 percent of the population fully immunized.
Essential workers in restaurants, construction, or religion become eligible for the vaccine on March 29.
The Tri-County area is reporting 204 new COVID cases over the past 24 hours, for a total 36,337 cases. No additional deaths were reported. There are eight people in the ICU and another 35 in non-ICU beds for COVID.
