Peoria-area community and economic development groups want to redefine their corner of Central Illinois — and they’re asking for input from residents to do so.
The Big Table - Greater Peoria, planned for October, is a day-long event where participants will discuss their experiences and vision for the community.
The goal is to facilitate conversations about the opportunities and challenges faced in areas such as education, workforce development, and diversity and inclusion.
Jeff Griffin is president and CEO of the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, one of the organizations hosting the event.
“The spirit of innovation, the spirit of entrepreneurship are natural resources — and our talents, they’re not going anywhere,” Griffin said. “We need to unify those as one voice to tell the rest of the world why Greater Peoria is a fantastic region.”
Other sponsoring organizations include the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council and the Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Morton, East Peoria, Pekin, Washington and Peoria Heights Chambers of Commerce are also involved.
The event, which will be held at the Peoria Civic Center on Oct. 15, is free and open to all residents. Online registration is required.
