Peoria Civic Center Lost $1.3M In Coronavirus Cancellations

The Peoria Civic Center is reporting revenue numbers deep in the red, after the novel coronavirus canceled virtually all concerts and sporting events.

General Manager Rik Edgar told the Peoria Civic Center Advisory Board in a meeting Friday that the Civic Center ended February $300,000 dollars ahead of budget — one their best months in recent times.

Come March, he said, that all changed.

"Once the COVID-19 pandemic started impacting our business, to date we've lost more than  $1.3 million dollars of revenue for this fiscal year," Edgar said.

But he said there is a silver lining.

"Ticketed events have all rescheduled or are in the process of rescheduling for future dates, except for one," Edgar said, adding the permanently canceled event was a small concert not expected to bring in much revenue.

He said no events will be held at the Peoria Civic Center for at least 60 to 90 days, while the venue gets back on its feet.
