Peoria County has moved past 250 deaths linked to COVID-19 with five more fatalities reported Wednesday.
In their daily update, Tri-County officials reported 164 new coronavirus infections since Tuesday to raise the region’s total case count to 33,622. The number of COVID-19 patients in Peoria-area hospitals dropped 26 from 33, while 672 residents are currently isolating at home.
The five most recent fatalities include two women in their 80s from long-term care facilities, while the others were a man and a woman in their 60s and a woman in her 70s. The region's death toll stands at 547, with 252 in Peoria County, 232 in Tazewell County, and 63 in Woodford County.
Meanwhile, 15,982 area residents are now fully vaccinated with a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine – or 4.54% of the region’s total population.
Figures the Illinois Department of Public Health’s online database show the three local counties have administered 82,213 vaccine doses combined after totaling 2,416 injections in the past day. Illinois has administered 1,903,942 doses with a daily average of 60,551 over the past week, while 446,015 residents are fully vaccinated (3.5%).
State health officials reported 1,795 new illnesses and 24 deaths in the past day, pushing the totals since mid-March to 1,166,717 infections and 20,057 fatalities. Hospitals across Illinois have 1,719 coronavirus patients, including 375 in intensive care units and 176 on ventilators. The preliminary seven-day positivity rate remained 3.4%.
