Peoria County has eclipsed 50,000 administered doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and 10,000 residents fully vaccinated, while the Tri-County region has added 77 new coronavirus infections and three additional fatalities in the past day.
Figures updated Thursday on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s online database tracking vaccinations show an increase of 2,146 injections in Peoria County over the day before, with 1,662 of those being second doses.
That moves Peoria County to 50,221 total doses administered and 10,297 individuals fully vaccinated, while Tazewell County stands at 27,185 total doses and 6,292 second doses. Across the entire Tri-County region, 5.23% of residents are fully vaccinated.
The region’s latest fatalities linked to COVID-19 are a man and a woman from Peoria County, both in their 70s, and a Tazewell County man in his 50s. The Tri-County’s death toll since the start of the pandemic is up to 550, while the case count is now 33,699.
"In our past seven days, the daily average for the Tri-County has been 86 cases each day," said Peoria City/County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson. "That's approximately a hundred less than the previous week."
Peoria-area hospitals have 32 patients with the coronavirus, including 12 in intensive care units, while 674 residents are isolating at home.
The IDPH reported 1,966 new COVID cases and 72 more fatalities across Illinois, bringing the state’s totals since mid-March to 20,129 deaths and 1,168,683 infections. A total of 1,977,033 vaccine doses have been administered in Illinois, including 73,091 in the past day, while 472,755 residents have received a second dose – or 3.71% of the state’s population.
