Peoria Man Charged With Threatening Murder Against Trump, Other Federal Officials

A Peoria man faces federal charges after allegedly threatening violence against former President Donald Trump, a federal judge, and the former U.S. attorney for the Central District of Illinois.Damien Grant, 33, was indicted Tuesday in Chicago on three counts of influencing a federal official by threat, two counts of mailing threatening communications, and one count of threatening the president of the United States.

The case was moved to the Northern District of Illinois after the Central District was recused.

Grant reportedly wrote a letter to former U.S. Attorney John Milhiser on Nov. 30, telling him to  "drop all charges and investigations" against him, or he would make sure the alleged targets "never saw Christmas." He also reportedly threatened to "blow all you evil (expletive) to pieces."

The indictment says Grant sent similar letters in December to both Trump and a U.S. District judge in the Central District of Illinois.

Threatening the president carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Each of the other five counts are punishable by up to 10 years on each count.

An arraignment isn't scheduled yet.
