Peoria Teenager Sentenced to 45 Years in Prison For 2019 Murder

A judge sentenced 15-year-old Zaveon Marks to 45 years in prison Tuesday for the murder of 16-year-old Zarious Fair in Peoria's East Bluff neighborhood last summer.

Marks was found guilty of first degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a Peoria County jury in October 2019.

Marks avoided a potential life sentence due to his age. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled life sentences for juveniles are unconstitutional.

Marks will be eligible for parole in 20 years.
