The old Tyng School

The Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved allowing a Peoria church move forward with redeveloping the old Tyng School on the South Side.

Divergent City Church is looking to convert the long-vacant school on W. Ann Street into a church and community center. The school building would include recreational space, education programs for children and adults, a food center, and a computer lab and library.

Tyng School was built in 1915, with additions built in 1931 and 1949. The school was last used by Peoria Public Schools in 2009.

If the Peoria City Council approves the proposal at its August 22nd meeting, the path would be paved for Divergent City Church to purchase the building from the school district.
