Police ID Suspect In Riley Drive Slayings

Bloomington Police
Sydney T. Mays Jr. is wanted in connection with the June 18 fatal shootings on Riley Drive in Bloomington.

Authorities said Tuesday they're looking for the public's help finding a 21-year-old Bloomington man suspected of fatally shooting three people last month on Riley Drive.

A manhunt is underway for Sydney T. Mays Jr., the suspect in the June 18 shootings at an apartment on Riley Drive. He's wanted on murder, attempted murder, and gun charges.

Killed in the shooting were Corey Jackson, 22, Nathaniel Pena, 22, and Juan Perez-Macedo, 33, all of Bloomington. A 4-year-old boy was also seriously injured.

Mays, who also goes by "Mitch" or "Syd," is considered armed and dangerous. He's described as a black male, 5-foot-9 and 250 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Mays has a tattoo on his right arm of the name "Shavone."

Mays' criminal record includes a recent stop at the McLean County jail. Five days before the shooting on Riley Drive, an arrest warrant was issued for Mays after he failed to show up at the McLean County jail to serve his 14-day sentence for driving on a suspended license in 2017, court records show. He was arrested on that warrant, but then bonded out of jail June 15.

If you have any information about Mays' whereabouts, contact Bloomington Detective Thomas Rena of the U.S. Marshal's Task Force (309) 275-5345 or Thomas.rena@usdoj.gov.

If you would like to remain anonymous you may also call Crime Stoppers at (309) 828-1111.
