Police: Man Killed After Fleeing Traffic Stop On Interstate 55

UPDATED 3:10 p.m. | Authorities say a man who was killed Monday night on Interstate 55 was fleeing from police after a traffic stop.

The man was identified Tuesday as Zachary Doyle, 27, of Hammond, Indiana. Chenoa Police pulled him over on I-55 near Lexington (mile marker 180) on Monday night for an equipment violation, State Police said. Doyle was asked to step out of the vehicle but then fled on foot, State Police said.

Doyle was then struck by an oncoming vehicle on southbound I-55, State Police said. He was later pronounced dead at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, authorities said. McLean County Coroner Kathy Davis said Tuesday he died from multiple blunt force injuries.

The coroner’s office and State Police continue to investigate.
