Police: No Evidence Sunnyland Woman Was Attacked

The East Peoria Police Department said its investigation into a Sunnyland woman who claimed she was attacked by two men on bicycles is closed after no evidence was found to substantiate the claim.

The woman reported the incident happened outside the Tall Oaks Village Apartments, 2324 Washington Road, on June 22. East Peoria police reviewed surveillance video, looked at the alleged victim's cellphone, and interviewed other residents of the apartment complex.

Police said both video and eyewitness accounts confirm the woman walked to the end of the apartment's driveway and sat down. The cellphone records show she attempted to call family members for help, police said. She then attempted to return to her apartment, and was helped by two people who live in the apartment complex, as confirmed by an eyewitness and the victim.

Police said they're unsure if the woman had a heat or medical-related difficulty.
