Area law enforcement agencies and Illinois State University are preparing for a party in town if the Chicago Cubs win the World Series.

Police at ISU and the Town of Normal have increased staffing by more than 25 officers for the evening and they have lengthened their usual on call lists.

"We will have a few extra officers working tonight and there will be additional officers on standby if we need to bring them in," said ISU Chief Aaron Woodruff.

Town of Normal Chief Rick Bleichner says thats for a couple of reasons...

"One to kind of give us feedback on how things are going in the community and the other is people tend to be on better behavior when they see police out and about," said Bleichner.

ISU President Larry Dietz has also sent an e-mail to students. Dietz is encouraging people to celebrate safely and respectfully as they cheer the Cubs to victory.

"Tthis is a gentle reminder that our laws, codes and policies apply every day, even on occasions that occur just once every one-hundred-eight years," wrote Dietz.

ISU will be locking up campus facilities a little earlier than usual as well.

Chief Bleichner of Normal says weather can suppress the most boisterous excesses.

"If it did happen to rain tonight, we think it would impact and kind of hold down any kind of potential celebratory gatherings," said Bleichner.

Woodruff and Bleichner also say there has been no incident so far in the post season.
