The OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

UPDATED 8:15 p.m. | A power outage at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington has put elective surgeries and procedures on hold. Power is expected to be restored Thursday.

The medical center lost power around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday due to an underground short in power lines leading to the hospital, OSF HealthCare officials said. Two of three lines feeding electricity to the campus are down, officials said. The necessary parts have been obtained and work is underway to repair those lines.

The emergency department is open, OSF officials said. No patients admitted to the hospital have needed to be relocated.

Electricity remains out in Eastland Medical Plaza I and Eastland Medical Plaza II. Those with office appointments Thursday at these locations should call the office.

Elective surgeries and procedures at OSF St. Joseph, Eastland Medical Plaza SurgiCenter, and Eye Surgical Associates are on hold until power has been fully restored. Patients with elective surgeries or procedures scheduled for Thursday are being contacted with further instructions or to reschedule.

Other services and care units on campus are operating normally with air conditioning, with the support of emergency generators.
