Annie Turnbo Malone is considered Peoria's first black female millionaire. Born in 1869, Malone would go on to start a hair-care product empire...and found the nation's first African-American cosmetology college.

Tim Shelley recently spoke to Malone's great-nephew, Agbara Bryson and Linda Nance, president of the Annie Malone Historical Society in St. Louis, about their efforts to preserve her legacy and what her life can teach young people today about the power of perseverance.

Listen to the full interview with Agbara Bryson and Linda Nance.
