Recreational Cannabis Dispensary Plans to Open in Galesburg

A recreational cannabis dispensary is heading to Galesburg.

Ken Springer, the CEO of the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development, said Nature's Treatment of Illinois purchased a former Aldi grocery store at Main and Henderson.

The company currently operates a medical dispensary in Milan, near the Quad Cities.

Springer said the dispensary will employ about 25 full-time workers. Nature's Treatment of Illinois hopes to be open in Galesburg by Jan. 1, Springer said.

It's unclear how much revenue a Galesburg dispensary would be expected to generate. Currently, the nearest dispensaries are based in Canton, Peoria and Milan.

Springer said the Galesburg City Council is expected to vote on recreational cannabis sales policy at its Sept. 3 meeting.

The former grocery store will also include a coffee shop.

The cities of Peoria and East Peoria each have dispensaries, as well. Those two cities are currently deliberating if they will allow recreational cannabis sales.
