6 New COVID-19 Deaths Reported In Tri-County Area

Sixty Tri-County residents have succumbed to COVID-19 complications in the past two weeks following the addition of six more deaths announced on Friday.

Five of the most recent victims were residents of long-term care facilities experiencing coronavirus outbreaks: two Peoria County men in their 70s, and a man and two women from Tazewell County, all over 80. The sixth fatality was a Tazewell County woman in her 60s. The region’s death toll since the start of the pandemic stands at 337.

Area health officials reported 243 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the count since mid-March to 23,481. That represents an increase of 1,954 in the past week, down from 2,096 over the previous seven-day period.

Peoria-area hospitals have 192 COVID-19 patients, including 50 in intensive care units, while 6,631 area residents are in home isolation.   

Illinois health officials reported 7,377 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases, with fatalities numbering 181 for a second straight day. Since mid-March, 886,805 Illinoisans have contracted the coronavirus and 15,015 have died.

The statewide preliminary seven-day positivity rate dipped under 10%, registering at 9.7% through Thursday. Of the 4,690 patients hospitalized with COVID in Illinois, 1,023 were in ICUs and 589 were on ventilators.
