Rhoda Ring of Bloomington is a hugger. At a time when hugging is not advised.

Now a story about loneliness as Illinois continues under the governor's stay-at-home order.

Over the weekend, WGLT received a voicemail with a song request from an 84-year-old Bloomington woman. She says as a "hugger" she's struggling to deal with the physical isolation. She hasn't been able to see most of her seven children and multiple grandchildren, who fear they will spread the coronavirus.

That woman is Rhoda Ring of Bloomington. WGLT's Jon Norton spoke to her via phone:

We’re living in unprecedented times when information changes by the minute. WGLT will continue to be here for you, keeping you up-to-date with the live, local and trusted news you need. Help ensure WGLT can continue with its in-depth and comprehensive COVID-19 coverage as the situation evolves by making a contribution.

Jon Norton is the program director at WGLT and WCBU. He also is host of All Things Considered every weekday.
