An executive who leads State Farm's external public relations efforts is leaving the company for a new job at another insurer.

Departing State Farm executive Lewis Pryor.

Lewis Pryor is currently assistant vice president for public affairs at the Bloomington-based insurer. He leads the company’s external PR including media relations, community relations activities, public relations campaigns, and digital media, according to his LinkedIn.

Pryor is leaving for a new communications job at USAA, which has 11 million members with military ties, according to a USAA spokesperson. USAA is one of the Top 5 largest auto and home insurers in the country.

It’s unclear when Pryor is leaving the company. A State Farm spokesperson confirmed his exit but said “we don’t discuss personnel issues and decisions.”

Pryor joined the company in 1995 as a claims representative before rising to the role of assistant vice president in 2011, according to his LinkedIn profile. Assistant vice presidents are among the highest-ranking executives at the company.

News of Pryor's departure comes one week after State Farm disclosed that 890 information technology (IT) positions would be cut in Bloomington. State Farm has repeatedly said the company's overall local workforce will remain around 15,000 as employees move in and out of the community in other roles.
