State Representative Bill Mitchell of Forsyth says a tax hike proposal from the Democratic House Speaker is more of what put Illinois in it's current precarous fiscal prediciment.
Mitchell, a Republican, says the last time taxes were raised under Governor Pat Quinn, education funding fell anyway. Mike Madigan said Wednesday that "a good place to begin" in mending a multibillion-dollar spending hole would be to return the state income tax to 5 percent. Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno is calling the idea ``outrageous.'' She says Governor Bruce Rauner should be able to make basic changes to make Illinois businesses more competitive first.
