The McLean County Health Department announced no new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

McKnight said you should know the guidelines anywhere you are going and be especially careful where COVID-19 infections are rising.

“Be aware of where you are traveling to, do a little research about what they are experiencing there,” McKnight said. “We have had some states pop up with increases in cases.”

Travel also could increase as Illinois moves to Phase 4 of its reopening plan on Friday and many people have gone months without seeing extended family.

Health Department Assistant Administrator Cathy Coverston-Anderson has a suggestion for anyone making vacation travel plans--always pack what you need to limit the spread of infection.

“Make sure that you have your own hand sanitizer with you because you may be in locations that don’t have that, or rest stops where sanitation facilities may be more limited,” she said.

McLean County announced no new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. Of the county’s 253 confirmed cases, 90% of patients have recovered. Thirteen are isolating at home, while none are in the hospital. Thirteen people have died.

No hospitalizations

Most of the recent COVID-19 infections in McLean County are among young adults. Those in their 20s make up nearly one-quarter of all coronavirus cases in the county.

McKnight said it becomes a bigger problem when those young adults come in contact with people who are older or have more health risks.

“Across the state, the data is similar to where we are seeing less hospitalizations, so obviously that is good news,” McKnight said. “We are still encouraging those vulnerable populations to be extra cautious.”

McLean County hasn't had a COVID-19 hospitalization in two weeks.

ZIP codes

The bulk of the COVID-19 cases in McLean County are in Bloomington-Normal. The three ZIP codes with the most cases, according to the health department, are 61704 (east and south Bloomington) with 82, 61760 (Normal) with 65, and 61701 (central Bloomington) with 62.

The 61701 and 61761 zip codes also have seen the largest increases in recent weeks.
