The Tri-County area is now past 164,000 administered doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 65,000 fully vaccinated residents, while a Tazewell County man in his 70s became the Tri-County's latest victim linked to the pandemic.
Area public health officials on Thursday announced 164 new COVID cases in the past day, bringing the region’s case count over the past year to 36,133. The death toll stands at 595 since the start of the pandemic, and 195 since the beginning of 2021.
Peoria-area hospitals have 42 patients with COVID-19, including 12 in intensive care units, and about 720 individuals are isolating at home.
Meanwhile, the latest figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health showed Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties collectively adding 2,851 shots in the past 24 hours. The counties’ combined daily average over the past week is at 2,008.
The region has now recorded 164,156 total injections and 65,455 fully vaccinated individuals over 16, representing 18.6% of the population. In Peoria County alone, 19.5% of residents are fully vaccinated.
Illinois as a whole added 118,544 shots since Wednesday, bringing the state's count to 5.15 million with about 15.1% of residents are completely vaccinated.
The IDPH reported 2,190 new COVID-19 cases and 35 deaths, bringing the state’s numbers to 1,229,898 infections and 21,171 fatalities. Hospitals across the state had 1,251 coronavirus patients, and the preliminary seven-day positivity rate is at 3.2%.
