A Tazewell County man in his 40s is among four new deaths linked to COVID-19 in the Tri-County area over the past day.
Hospitalizations increased for a fourth straight day, as the region approaches 220,000 total COVID-19 vaccinations and 96,000 fully vaccinated residents.
The three other victims reported by Tri-County health officials Friday were all from Peoria County: a man and a woman in their 60s and another man in his 80s.
The region’s death toll since the start of the pandemic last March increased to 621, while the case count climbed to 41,261 with an addition of 266 new infections since Thursday.
Peoria-area hospitals have 182 patients admitted for COVID-19, including 47 in intensive care units. That’s an increase of 58 hospitalizations in the past seven days -- and 150 over the past four weeks. The number of people isolating at home has more than tripled in that span, from 710 on March 19 to the current 2,476.
Peoria County’s rolling seven-day positivity rate is 12.7%, while Tazewell checks in at 10.9% and Woodford at 8%. The positivity rate across all of Region 2 is 7.7%.
State health officials report 3,866 new cases and 21 deaths since Thursday, pushing Illinois’ totals to 1,296,381 illnesses and 21,630 fatalities.
Hospitals across the state have 2,058 patients admitted for COVID-19, including 468 in ICUs. The rolling seven-day positivity rate is 4.9%.
Meanwhile, the latest vaccination figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) show Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties collectively adding 3,595 injections in the past day, with 2,069 individuals completing their doses.
That brings the area to 219,948 shots administered and 95,925 residents fully vaccinated, or 27.3% of the population. Illinois as a whole is just under 25%, with 3.18 million fully vaccinated adults and 7.78 million total shots in arms.
