Tri-County health officials on Wednesday reported 99 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, but no new deaths linked to the pandemic for a second straight day.
Meanwhile, more than 60,000 area residents are now considered fully vaccinated, including about 1,600 in the past day.
The new infections bring the region’s total since the start of the pandemic to 35,251, while the death toll remains at 590 with only one fatality in the past week.
Seven of the 25 coronavirus patients currently in Peoria-area hospitals are being treated in intensive care units, and about 700 infected individuals are isolating at home.
Updated figures on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s online database show Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties combined to add 2,644 vaccine doses since Tuesday, bringing the area’s total for shots in arms to 153,769. The three counties averaged 2,583 daily injections over the past week.
The 60,382 fully vaccinated individuals represent 17.2% of the region’s population. Peoria County alone stands at 32,665 fully vaccinated residents, or 18.1%. Illinois as a whole is up to 4.28 million shots in arms with 12.6% percent of residents fully vaccinated.
The IDPH reported 1,655 new cases and 17 more deaths since Tuesday. The state's totals stand at 1,213,765 illnesses and almost 21,000 fatalities.
