Tri-County Adds Nearly 2,100 COVID-19 Cases In 7 Days

The Tri-County Area moved past 300 deaths tied to COVID-19 with five new fatalities reported Friday.

Health officials reported 316 new coronavirus cases in the past day, bringing the region’s total since the start of the pandemic to 21,527. That represents an increase of 2,096 infections from one week ago.

Three of the latest victims were from Tazewell County, including two residents of facilities with active COVID-19 outbreaks. Woodford County reported two deaths, a man and a woman both in their 70s and not associated with a long-term care facility. The area’s death toll since mid-March is 304.

The number of coronavirus patients in Peoria-area hospitals fell slightly to 180, including 49 people in intensive care units, while 6,350 residents are isolating at home.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 9,420 new cases and 190 additional deaths on Friday. The statewide totals since mid-March stand at 832,951 cases and 14,050 fatalities.

Through Thursday, the preliminary seven-day statewide positivity is 11.1%. Illinois hospitals had 5,141 COVID-19 patients as of Thursday night, with 1,081 in ICUs and 635 on ventilators.
