Two more Tazewell County residents have succumbed to COVID-19, while active cases in the Tri-County area ticked up slightly in the past day.
Health officials on Wednesday reported 119 new coronavirus infections, bringing the region’s total since the start of the pandemic to 31,495. The number of residents isolating at home increased by nine to 2,205, while Peoria-area hospitals have 68 COVID patients – two more than the day before. Seventeen hospitalized people are being treated in intensive care units.
The two latest victims are a man in his 60s and a woman in her 90s, neither associated with long-term care facilities. Tazewell County has accounted for 218 of the region’s 512 deaths attributed to the coronavirus, with Peoria County adding 234 and Woodford County adding 60.
According to figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health’s online database tracking COVID-19 vaccinations, 35,169 doses have been administered in the Tri-County area and 3,047 people have been fully vaccinated. Statewide, 117,983 residents have received a second dose and 773,623 total doses have been administered.
The IDPH reported 3,751 new confirmed and probable coronavirus infections since Tuesday, bringing the state’s case count to 1,112,181. With 81 additional fatalities, Illinois’ death toll moved to 18,964.
The state’s preliminary seven-day positivity rate dipped to 5.6%. As of Tuesday night, hospitals across Illinois had 2,931 patients with COVID, including 591 in intensive care units and 300 on ventilators.
