The Tri-County area eclipsed two more milestones with COVID-19 vaccinations topping 50,000 residents fully vaccinated and 135,000 doses administered.

Yet the region’s death toll from the pandemic increased by three on Wednesday as Tri-County health officials reported one new Peoria County fatality in the past day while announcing two additional Woodford County victims from January.

Vaccine figures updated Wednesday on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s online database show an addition of 3,250 injections in the region in the past day, with 1,377 second doses included in the total. That brings the area’s counts to 135,671 shots provided and 51,130 residents with completed vaccinations.

Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties now have 14.6% of the combined adult population fully vaccinated, with Peoria County alone leading the way at 16.0%. The difference of 84,541 between total doses and second doses indicates 24.1% of Tri-County residents have gotten at least one shot.

Illinois as a whole has administered 104,777 vaccine doses since Tuesday, including 53,641 second doses. The state has registered 3.57 million shots in arms, and 9.8% of residents is fully vaccinated.

The new Peoria County death linked to COVID-19 is a man in his 80s who was not associated with a long-term care facility. The two Woodford County fatalities from January uncovered in case reviews were both women -- one in her 70s and another in her 80s who was a long-term care facility resident.

Additionally, a Woodford County death reported Tuesday actually occurred in December. The Tri-County death toll over the past year now stands at 589, while the case count increased to 34,737 with 69 new coronavirus infections logged in the past day.

The IDPH reported 1,682 new illnesses and 30 more deaths since Tuesday, bringing Illinois’ tallies to 1,202,709 cases and 20,810 deceased residents.
