Tri-County COVID-19 Hospitalizations Approach 200; Region Adds 4 Deaths

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in the Tri-County area have reached the highest total in 17 weeks as the region nears 100,000 fully vaccinated residents.

Tri-County public health officials on Monday reported four more deaths linked to the pandemic and 532 more coronavirus infections over the weekend.

The latest victims are two men and two women from Peoria County, all in their 60s or older with three having underlying health issues.  The region's death toll since last March is up to 625, while the case count stands at 41,793.

Peoria-area hospitals have 193 patients admitted for COVID-19, up by 11 at the end of last week and the most since 198 on Dec. 21. The number of patients in intensive care units dipped slightly to 44, while nearly 2,100 individuals are isolating at home – a decline of around 380 from last Friday.

The rolling seven-day average test positivity in the Tri-County has started to tick back down, with figures updated through last Friday showing Peoria County at 11.4%, Tazewell at 10.1%, and Woodford at 6.2%. All of Region 2 collectively posted a 7.0% positivity rate.

Meanwhile, updated figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) show the region adding 6,678 vaccinations and 3,926 fully dosed individuals over the weekend.

That moved the totals for Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties to 226,626 administered injections and 99,851 fully vaccinated adults, or 28.4% of the area population. The region has averaged 2,821 shots per day over the past week.

Illinois as a whole is up to 8,119,867 total injections and 3,365,282 residents fully vaccinated, or 26.41% of residents fully vaccinated.  IDPH reported 1,959 new COVID-19 cases and 22 additional fatalities in the past day, moving the state’s totals to 1,304,200 infections and 21,685 deaths.
