A Peoria County man in his 50s and a woman in her 90s from Sharon Healthcare Elms are the Tri-County area’s latest COVID-19 victims.
Health officials reported 213 new coronavirus infections Thursday, bringing the region’s case count to 30,701 since the onset of the pandemic last March.
The two new fatalities brought the region’s pandemic death toll to 500 overall and 100 since the final update in December.
Peoria-area hospitals are treating 87 patients with COVID-19, including 26 in intensive care units. The number of Tri-County residents in home isolation grew by 17 to 2,456.
On Thursday, Peoria City/County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson said Region 2 continues to trend in the right direction on test positivity rates and hospitalizations. Additional mitigations could be lifted in the next few days, she said.
"It is exciting to be able to have this conversation, to be able to talk about moving not only into Tier 1, but also now moving into Phase 4," she said.
Indoor capacity at restaurants and bars was only permitted again last Sunday as the region moved into Tier 1. More capacity would be allowed under Phase 4.
Information on the Illinois Department of Public Health website showed 21,238 doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered in the Tri-County area, with 1,767 people fully vaccinated.
The IDPH added 4,979 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, raising the state’s case tally to 1,086,333 since the start of the pandemic. Illinois’ death toll climbed to 18,520 with 123 additional fatalities since Wednesday.
The state's preliminary seven-day positivity rate is at 6.5%, while 3,281 Illinois residents are hospitalized, with 662 in ICUs and 358 on ventilators. The number of COVID vaccine doses administered is 572,389, with 120,944 people fully vaccinated.
