Ten more Tri-County residents have died from COVID-19 complications in the past day, and health officials reported Tuesday a total of 209 coronavirus patients being treated at the Peoria-area’s four hospitals.

Both figures establish new single-day highs for the region. Eight of the latest fatalities are from Peoria County, including three men in their 80s from the Bickford Senior Living Center. Along with one death each in Tazewell and Woodford counties, it brings the area’s death toll since the start of the pandemic to 230.

"What that means right now for our hospital systems is that they're averaging 46 ICU beds daily in the past seven days, and 142 non-ICU beds in use," said Peoria City/County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson.

The three counties combined to add 333 new COVID cases since Monday, with 171 in Tazewell County, 130 in Peoria County and 32 in Woodford, bringing the region’s total case count since March to 16,088. The hospitalized patients include 46 being treated in intensive care units, while 4,970 Tri-County residents are isolating at home.

"Our seven-day average for the Tri-County now sits at 363 cases daily," said Hendrickson.

The other area fatalities reported Tuesday were: two Peoria County women in their 70s, one in her 80s; one Peoria County man in his 80s and one in his 90s; a Tazewell County man in his 80s; and a Woodford County woman in her 80s with underlying conditions from Heritage Health of El Paso.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported another 9,469 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, along with 125 deaths. This brings the statewide totals to 674,089 infections and 11,677 fatalities. The state's state-day positivity rate stands at 12.4%.

As of Monday night, 6,134 coronavirus patients statewide were reported to be in the hospital, with 1,203 people in the ICU and 668 on ventilators.
