UnityPoint Health - Pekin celebrated the completion of major renovations at the hospital with a ribbon cutting Friday.
The $8 million upgrades includes a new urgent care center and revamped lobby, gift shop, emergency room and laboratories.
“All of this is about our commitment to enhancing quality and access of healthcare services. And it’s our goal to make healthcare services easier and more personal for the Pekin community," said Dr. Keith Knepp, the Regional CEO for UnityPoint Health.
Pekin Hospital affiliated with UnityPoint in January 2017. Knepp acknowledged the hospital recently saw some difficult decisions made, such as the birthing center’s closure in Pekin. But he said UnityPoint is invested in the community.
“We’ve always made those decisions and we’ll continue to make them based on the quality of care we can provide, where we can provide the best access, and where we can deliver the best experience," he said.
After the ribbon cutting, attendees went on tours of the new facilities. The renovations are set to be completed in 2020.
