UPDATED: Normal Boil Order Likely to End Saturday Night

All water users in the Town of Normal are being told to boil their water before drinking it.

Workers repaired a major water main break, which occurred late Thursday just east of the intersection of Grandview Dr. and College Ave. in Normal. Due to the size of the break, the water system pressure dropped to a level that requires a town wide boil order effective immediately.

Repairs to the main were completed about 4 p.m. Friday, and water sample testing began at 7 p.m. Testing of these samples requires approximately 24 hours, per Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation.

Notification will be issued by the Town of Normal as soon as the boil order is lifted. Given the time required for the testing, Water Department officials anticipate that the boil order will be lifted sometime Saturday evening.
