Without Competitions, Woodruff Culinary Students Left Looking For Other Scholarship Opportunities

It's not just high school athletes feeling the scholarship pinch during the pandemic.

The culinary team at Woodruff Career and Technical Center took first place in the restaurant management category at the Illinois ProStart Invitational last March, just days before the governor's first stay-at-home order.

That win secured them a handful of small scholarships and a chance to compete at the national competition in Washington, D.C., over the summer. But the continuation of pandemic lockdowns prompted cancellation of the national competition, and the coveted scholarship opportunities that go with it.

Tory Dahlhoff brings us the story of how one of those students is moving forward despite the missed opportunities.
