For recovering addicts, staying sober can more difficult around the holidays. Alcohol is as pervasive as gingerbread cookies at holiday parties. And as families come together, the pain of past relapses can linger even if a person is newly sober.

A senior official with the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy visited Bloomington’s Chestnut Health Systems on Monday to gain insight on how addiction treatment is covering rural residents.

Illinois State Troopers seized 143 pounds of cannabis just south of Bloomington this week and a lot more.

Amber Widner of Bozeman, Mont., was stopped on I-74 Wednesday after committing a traffic violation. During the stop, a state police canine alerted to the odor of illegal drugs.

Troopers also recovered 14 pounds of mushrooms, and 9 pounds of cannabis wax. That's a concentrate of cannabis that has the consistency of ear wax. It is also known as butane hash oil because it is made with a butane extraction.

Bloomington Police have arrested four men who, investigators say, were involved in one of the most active drug rings in the city.
