The three candidates for Bloomington mayor agree that the economic recovery from the pandemic will demand a lot of attention if they’re elected. They have different views of what the city government’s role should be in supporting that recovery.

The three Bloomington mayoral candidates in the April 6 election were asked Tuesday night to address many of the same topics that have been dominating the national conversation for months. 

Bloomington voters this spring will choose their first new mayor in eight years. The choice is between a low-key veteran city council member and two political newcomers with very different backgrounds. One of them will replace Tari Renner, who is not seeking a third term.

Participants in Thursday night’s virtual Bloomington-Normal NAACP candidate forum were unified in denouncing white supremacy. 

The candidates vying for a McLean County Board seat representing Bloomington’s south end share visions of a cooperative approach to handling and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a well-functioning county-run nursing home.

The two differ on their approaches and priorities representing the area.
