There have been multiple lockdowns in a Pekin federal prison to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in the facility, with many inmates losing contact with families during the times they are confined to their cells.

And the family of one inmate said the impact on the family and the inmate is high.

Peoria Area Economy Leads To Favorable Job Market

The Peoria metropolitan area is experiencing low layoff rates and more jobs being advertised, leading to a favorable job market.

That’s according to Bradley University’s fourth-quarter composite index.

Bradley University’s third quarter checkup on the Peoria area economy shows continued positive performance with unemployment rates remaining low at 4.8 percent. That’s down nearly half a percent from this time last year.

A central Illinois man has been sentenced to two years in prison for defrauding an elderly man of his life savings.

A federal judge handed down the sentence Wednesday for 42-year-old Deryl Wright of Pekin. The judge also ordered Wright to pay more than $100,000 in restitution.

Wright pleaded guilty last year to three felony counts of wire fraud.
