McLean County Board – Republicans currently hold a 13-7 majority. For Democrats to win control, they would have to protect two Democratic seats (George Gordon/District 6 and Carlo Robustelli/District 8) and win 4 of 6 contested races against Republicans.

Nikita Richards claimed victory Wednesday and will take over as chair of the McLean County Democrats heading into the November election.

Many Democratic governors and a few Republican ones have called on the federal government to re-open the enrollment period for Affordable Care Act insurance programs.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis is skeptical whether that would do much.

"I think it's obviously open to discussion, but let's not kid ourselves, just opening up the ACA is not going to provide affordable health care coverage to people who are going to have to pay outrageous amounts on the exchanges," said Davis, the incumbent Republican in the 13th Congressional District.

McLean County Democrats went for former Vice President Joe Biden in Tuesday’s primary election, as the coronavirus depressed turnout and support for Sen. Bernie Sanders eroded.

UPDATED 11 p.m. | Betsy Dirksen Londrigan fended off a challenge from Stefanie Smith to win the Democratic primary in the 13th Congressional District race and earn a rematch against Republican incumbent Rodney Davis of Taylorville.

McLean County Auditor Michelle Anderson survived a rare primary challenge of an incumbent countywide officeholder, defeating Trisha Malott. She’s now headed for a three-way race in November.

Illinois State University student Hannah Beer defeated longtime Democratic McLean County Board member George Gordon in Tuesday’s primary election. Democrat Lea Cline won out over Nathan “Chiko” Russo in the only other contested primary for County Board.

Four years ago, black voter turnout declined in the U.S. for the first time in 20 years for a presidential election. Aiming to make a comeback starting with Tuesday’s primary, black voters in Bloomington-Normal say they’re adamant about educating themselves on the issues, hoping to make strategic selections that will result in progressive policymaking in the future.

Concerns about the coronavirus prompted the two election authorities in McLean County to move several polling sites less than one week before the Illinois primary election.

In the second biggest Democratic primary night next to Super Tuesday, March 10 has six contests. Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota and Washington state are choosing Democratic presidential nominees.
