Bloomington's three-member Board of Election Commissioners is seeking a person from either major political party to fill a recent vacancy left by John Walther.

Bloomington residents "of well-known political convictions" are invited to apply for a seat on the board that oversees the city's elections.

The three-member Board of Election Commissioners is seeking a person from either major political party to fill a recent vacancy left by John Walther. Denise Williams and Terry Luce remain on the board.

Commissioners serve three-year terms on the board. Other requirements for election commissioners include a minimum of two years' residency in Illinois and being legally registered to vote in Bloomington. Board meetings are held once a month downtown.

Established in 1914 after issues with election fraud, the Bloomington Election Commission is tasked with all aspects of election administration within the city while the McLean County clerk's office handles the rest of the county.

Those interested in serving on the board are asked to send a letter of interest to City of Bloomington Board of Election Commissioners, c/o Judge Rebecca Foley — who will make the appointment — at 104 W. Front Street, Bloomington, IL 61701. Letters must be received by Jan. 31.

The next elections are set for April 1.
