3 things to do this weekend: Paradise Lost-a-thon, Disco skate and low-key organic chem

Five people bundled in winter gear joyfully throw powdery snow in the air.

Here are 3 things to do for the weekend of Jan. 24-26, 2025, curated by WGLT's Lauren Warnecke. You can find more coverage on our Datebook - Arts & Music page or by subscribing to WGLT's Weekend Scoop email newsletter, which goes out every Friday.

Party like it's 1667: Only the strong will survive a cover-to-cover read-a-thon of John Milton’s 10,000-line epic Paradise Lost. But fear not! Illinois Wesleyan University’s English Department has all kinds of on brand delectable delights (devil’s food cake, angel food cake, etc.) to help you stay the course. 10 a.m. Saturday at the Center for Engaged Learning, IWU Ames Library; free. Sign up to read by emailing jdiaz@iwu.edu.

Boogie Days: Blades of Glory meets Xanadu when Bloomington Ice Center’s themed open skate goes disco this month. Incentive: Bell bottoms may be difficult to skate in, but 1970s stylings get you a buck off admission. 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday; $7 admission ($3 skate rental). bloomingtonparks.org.

Pints + Physics = Pfun: Science on Tap, an occasional, low-key, STEM-focused group hang at Keg Grove Brewing Co., is back. Speakers Carlos Rodriguez-Saltos, Andy Santarelli and Andy Mitchell tap into topics like birds, black holes and (approachable) organic chemistry. 6 p.m. Monday; no cover.
