WGLT's reporting on the November 2020 election cycle.

Candidate Questionnaire: Michelle Anderson

These responses were submitted by Michelle Anderson, the incumbent Republican McLean County auditor. See more candidates responses.

Why do you want to serve as McLean County’s auditor?

To continue to be the watchdog for the citizens of McLean County.

What would be your top priorities if elected/re-elected?

To continue to add transparency to the County finances. Since taking office, I have began posting bills paid online and created the PAFR, a more user friendly/easier to understand set of annual financials.

What would be your approach to strengthening or improving the working relationship between the auditor’s office and other county officials and staff over the next four years?

Working with departments to understand County ordinances.

What specific professional experience do you have that would qualify you to serve as a “watchdog” for McLean County taxpayers?

I have 15 years of governmental accounting experience (public accounting experience as well), have created award-winning financials since coming to the County 13 years ago and have an accounting degree from Illinois State.

Should the Auditor’s position continue to be full-time, elected, and partisan? Why or why not?

It is a full time position and requires full time hours. I respect the voters desire to keep it elected, as they voted to do a few years back.
