Government Consolidation Plan In the Works
A government consolidation plan is in the final stages. Republican Governor Bruce Rauner assigned his lieutenant, Evelyn Sanguinetti with figuring out how to streamline local government and ease up on mandated spending. At a meeting Tuesday, Sanguinetti said the effort is nearly done.
The group has gotten on board with some of Rauner's controversial ideas for saving money, such as allowing local governments to drop collective bargaining. Opposition from Democrats to that and other anti-union concepts has led to Illinois' five-month budget stalemate.
A final meeting of the task force is scheduled for Thursday in Chicago.
