Host Liane Hansen speaks with author Gunnar Hansen about the ffects of hurricanes on the barrier islands off the Eastern coast of North merica, focusing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Hurricane Felix held teady off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina this past week, and although erious damage was avoided, the high winds and strong tides had an effect on the elicate shore islands that lie between the mainland and the Atlantic ocean. unnar Hansen is the author of "Islands at the Edge of Time: A Journey to merica's Barrier Islands."
