Dole On The Dole

NPR's Elizabeth Arnold reports that Senator Bob Dole gave a speech today on his plans to reform the welfare system if he is elected President. The presumptive Republican nominee called for a five-year lifetime limit on receiving welfare benefits and said states should have the option of testing recipients for drugs. He criticized President Clinton for failing to reform welfare, as Clinton had promised to do before being elected to the White House.
