Linda talks with Martin Cruz Smith about his new book called "Rose." The book is a mystery set in an 1870s coal mining town called Wigan (WIG-in). The character "Rose" is a "pit girl." Pit girls were women who worked at the mines and became famous throughout Victorian England when they refused to wear long dresses on the job, choosing pants instead. (Random House; NY, 1996)
