Trip To Romania

Commentator Andrei Codrescu returned to Bucharest, Romania six years after the 1989 "revolution." Now, he comments on the new Romania. He is struck by the new class of young entrepreneurs called "cell-phone people" and the nouveau-riche stealing stones of sacred relics for their houses. He also sees homeless dogs, saved by a Swiss animal rights group, overruning the fashionable streets of Bucharest. And the voting, although primitive, appears to be fair.
