The 1996 Congressional races are attracting even more attention than usual from special interest groups, which are concerned about which party controls the House of Representatives. Many groups which have been favored by Democrats in the past are working hard to unseat vulnerable Republican House freshmen in the hope of reversing the Republican takeover of 1994. Other groups are working just as hard to preserve the Republican majority. The result is that some toss-up House seats have become major battlegrounds for special interests.
