Female Circumcision

Although the U.S. Congress recently passed a law banning female circumcisions in this country, doctors at a public hospital in Seattle are considering offering a "symbolic nick" -- a modified form of the procedure to Somali families who've asked to have their daughters circumcised. KPLU reporter Christine Arrasmith says the hospital wants to deter the new immigrants from having the more radical surgery performed, but critics say the compromise implies tolerance of a practice that should be stopped.
