In San Francisco, there's a fight going on between the Archbishop and the city over a new city ordinance requiring benefits for domestic partners. Commentator Joe Loconte says the city is trying to impose its vision of a moral truth--but when the church decided to provide social services through Catholic Charities, it placed itself in a quandary--it is legally administered as a non-profit, non-sectarian agency divorced of it theological or religious roots. Loconte says they can't have it both ways.
